The goal of the counselors at MWMS is to help students succeed both in and out of the classroom. Functioning as a resource within the school and community, we promote lifelong learning and the development of positive social attributes. We strive to ensure that students acquire the skills necessary to become contributing members to an ever-changing global society. Although school counselors may possess behavioral health and therapeutic services experience, they do not conduct psycho-therapy sessions. If there is a need for these type of services, the counselor will suggest appropriate referrals outside of the school district.
In counseling, Confidentiality is a must. When counselors at MWMS meet with students, they explain what Confidentiality is and when it must be broken to ensure the safety of the student. The reasons for breaking Confidentiality include: if the student is being hurt by another; if the student is hurting themself; and if the student is hurting somebody or something other than themself. Situations such as Domestic Violence, Cutting, Suicidal Ideation, Pregnancy, and Drug Use are examples of when Confidentiality will be broken.
